The day will feature a range of speakers from the world of tourism, business and heritage, and will focus on sustainability, with practical solutions that you can implement at your business.

How to be Sustainable GuidePractical Actions for businesses along the Jurassic Coast to support the Sustainable Development Goals

There are 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals, which work in partnership to support the shared goal of ending poverty, improving health and education, reducing inequality, while continuing to spur economic growth. All while tackling climate change and working to preserve our oceans and forests.

Speakers:

Gwyn Jones, Association of Sustainability Practitioners - Gwyn will focus on the need for each of us to contribute to tackling the massive challenges that the world is experiencing of climate change and biodiversity loss. Gwyn will discuss how we can accept the science now and move to action by doing good in order to do well.

* Ruud Jansen Venneboer, Mazzard Farm Holiday Cottages - Ruud will speak about some of the changes he has implemented at his self-catering cottages business in East Devon in order to enhance sustainability.

Dr. Nick Snashall, National Trust - Dr Snashall is the National Trust Archaeologist for Stonehenge and Avebury World Heritage Site. Dr Snashall’s talk at Jurassic January will be grounded in the experience and practice of sustainable heritage management in the Stonehenge and Avebury WHS.

* Philip Colfox, Symondsbury EstateIn his talk, Philip Colfox, owner of Symondsbury Estate, will give insight into how he is adapting working practices to work WITH nature, rather than against it, the impact this is having on the environment and why he feels this is a new opportunity in  ecotourism.

* James Golding, The Pig Hotels - James’s talk will cover The Pig Hotels ethos on sustainability and the practical ways they are implementing this throughout the business.

Lucy Cullinane, Efeca - Efeca is a local company that supports UK Government and businesses to become sustainable and more resilient to the impacts of climate change. This session will explore how each business along the Jurassic Coast can support the Sustainable Development Goals, and how that potential grows when we come together as a community.

* James Weld, Lulworth Estate - James’s talk will cover the measures that Lulworth Estate have implemented since 2020 to manage the increase in visitors to the coast, and associated issues with visitor behaviour.

* Derrick Ryall, Chair of the Jurassic Coast Trust - Outlining the JCT's visions and plans with an emphasis on sustainability.
