About

At the Fairlynch Museum (one of only a few thatched museums in the UK), you can find out about the ancient red cliffs of Budleigh Salterton which bridge the Permian/Triassic boundary, when the greatest mass extinction ever happened! Discover the story of the Littleham nodules which formed over 250 million years ago and remain mildly radioactive to this day - a fact discovered by local resident George Carter. Discover where the westernmost end of the Jurassic Coast dips its toe into the Palaeozoic! You can also discover the story of the Budleigh pebbles, and their long journey to locations as far away as Hastings. The Jurassic Coast's Oldest Fossil? At Fairlynch Museum you can see something very special - an Ordovician brachiopod that is about 445 million years old. That's nearly 200 million years older than the rocks found at Budleigh!
