About

Our friends at West Dorset Leisure Holidays have put together a great challenge for anyone exploring the Jurassic Coast on foot – the West Dorset Three Peaks Challenge!

Scale the heights of three of Dorset’s most prominent landmarks – Thorncombe Beacon (157 metres), Golden Cap (191 metres) and Colmer’s Hill (127 metres). A great challenge both for locals and holidaymakers, you can attempt the route in one 9.3 mile hike, or split it up into three separate walks.

WDLH have designed a circular route that starts at any of Highlands End Holiday ParkGolden Cap Holiday ParkEype House Holiday Park, or you can start and finish anywhere along the route that suits you.

Go easy and take in the amazing views from some of the county’s best viewpoints or see how quickly you can complete the challenge, and email WDLH with your time and some photos so they can add you to the leaderboard and share on social media!

You can also post your photos on social media using the hashtag #WDLHThreePeaks

As always, please be careful when walking along the coast path as the cliffs can be unstable. Please avoid going too close to the edge and keep dogs on leads when near cliffs and around livestock.

More information

There are some great places to stop along this route for refreshments, including Martin’s Bar & Restaurant at Highlands End Holiday Park, Eype Eats at Eype House Holiday Park, Downhouse Farm Cafe, The Anchor Inn at SeatownThe George Inn at Chideock and Symondsbury Estate.

Please note the stretch up ‘Hell Lane’ in North Chideock is very muddy and wet, especially from October to April. An alternative route would be to walk east through the village alongside the A35, past The George Inn and follow the footpath sign up to the top of Quarr Hill where it meets the top of Hell Lane.
