Mary Anning

About

Much has been written about Mary Anning and her fossil discoveries.

But what did she herself have to say? Who were her correspondents and what did they say about her? In this illustrated talk by Dr. Tom Sharpe, we’ll look at Mary’s life and work through her letters and those of her friends and clients.

Tom Sharpe was Curator of Palaeontology and Archives at the National Museum of Wales where he developed a particular interest
in the history of fossil marine reptiles and the work of Lyme geologists Henry de la Beche and Mary Anning. He is a Fellow of the
Geological Society, the Royal Geographical Society and The Museums’ Association and has served as Chair of the Geological
Society’s Geological Curators’ Group and History of Geology Group.

He was a Trustee of Lyme Regis Museum from 2013-2018 and is author of ‘The Fossil Woman: A Life of Mary Anning’ published by the
Dovecote Press in 2020.

Entrance fees are £2.00 for members of the Friends and £4.00 for visitors.

Everyone is welcome; tickets are not required.
