Graston Farm Holiday Cottages

About

Graston Farm Holiday Cottages are situated on a working farm nestling in the tranquillity and beauty of the Bride Valley. Our cottages are within easy walking distance of the now world famous Jurassic Coast, and we are able to provide maps for the many varied and interesting local walks linking into the Coastal Path.

Alternatively visitors can enjoy relaxing on Hive Beach, with the dramatic backdrop of the Jurassic Coastline looking out into Lyme Bay, with the island of Portland to the East and the Devon Coastline down to Start Point to the West. We also have safe storage facilities for cycles with basic maintenance facilities, providing a good base for those who wish to use the National Cycle Route No.2 passing by the farm.

Alternatively there are many other local routes for all abilities and ages, again linking into the coast. For those just wanting an overnight stay to break their journey, Bed and Breakfast is available in the main recently extended farmhouse where a comfortable bed followed by a hearty breakfast awaits, before continuing one's journey along the Coastal Path or Cycle Route.

Sustainable Tourism at Graston Farm

Our cottages have been built by converting the original stone farm barn, part of which dates back beyond 1066 where Graston is mentioned in the Domesday Book. Any extra stone required in the conversion came from the fields around the farm and many of the old timbers were retained throughout.

Our heating is from renewable sources with the main boiler fuelled from biomass and hot water from solar thermal panels, with all cottages benefiting from the extra heat retaining insulation. Where concrete floors had to be dug up, the concrete was crushed and recycled as hardcore under floors and patios.

Gardens were landscaped using reclaimed railway sleepers for terracing and professionally fenced using sustainable coppiced chestnut posts and reclaimed timber from around the farm. As an aid to reducing reliance on car travel, visitors can walk to the beach in around 30 minutes and for exploring further afield, cycle hire is available on-site.
